FAQ
Q 1: Who do contact with questions about my student's special education program?
A: Your student is assigned to a special education case manager. That person is your direct contact for special education questions. That person will also set up a bimonthly call with you and your student. These contacts are required for families to participate in. These contacts help build the partnership between the case managers and the families to better support the student's success at ACA.
Q 2: What is the difference between a 504 plan and an IEP?
A:
1. Section 504 Plans do not have goals or modifications, only accommodations to support the student as they work fully in the general education curriculum. IEP's are individual education plans that contain accommocations, modifications, goals, level of least restrictive environment, and minutes associated with the specialized instructional support outlined in the goals.
2. Students with a 504 are NOT pulled out of the general education curriculum for additional support services. Students with an IEP are pulled out for special education services for specific amounts of time per month as outlined in the IEP.
3. Section 504 plans are recognized by post-secondary college and university programs where as IEP's are not.
